Joy Sarkar is a famous music director and lyricist from Kolkata. He is also known as a renowned guitarist of the recent times. He works for movies as well as private albums. He has been active in the music industry since late 1990’s and Chhelebelar brishti, Chheletir naam megh, Janmobhumi and Swapno dekhao tumi are among his earliest works. His real name is Saurav Sarkar. As a music director he has completed more than a decade in the Bengal music industry. In the year 2005, he received ZEE Award for best music director – Bengali. In 2013, he received Radio Mirchi Best Upcoming Singer Award for the song – “Dhoro Kono Katha Holo Na” from the movie Accident. Keno Je Chokh Rangas, Collar Tule Bol, Vagoban Ke Niye Thatta and Ke Tumi Shibaji are among his recent releases as a music director. He has also served as a reality show judge for music based programs.
Joy was born in Kolkata to a Bengali singer, Sudhin Sarkar. His mother Kalyani Sarkar too had passion to music and she used to hum while doing household activities. In 2001, he married noted playback singer of Bengali movies, Lopamudra Mitra. The couple has together worked for many movies. His first experience to music was through guitar which he started learning at an early age. Now he is one of the leading guitarists of India. He learnt guitar from Subrata Karmakar, Nepal Shaw and Amyt Dutta.
He worked as music arranger and did sessions before debuting as an individual music director. As a film music director, he debut in the year 1998 with the movie, Chhelebelar Brishti. The song was sung by none other than his future wife. After that he has spent more than a decade composing songs for movies as well as television serials and commercials. Most recently, he has gained attention as a playback singer too.
